In general, most Texas court orders regarding children include a term establishing the county/area where the child must reside. This restriction is usually accompanied by the designation of one parent as the person who may choose the primary residence of the child. The residency restriction is also usually accompanied by a provision stating that if one party moves outside of the restricted area, then the non-moving parent is no longer subject to the restriction.

Many parties want to relocate after divorce or for other reasons, thus raising questions regarding if/when the child may move. If there is currently a residency restriction for your child(ren) or if you would like to relocate and know your options, contact our office today for an initial consultation.
