Senior Employment Law Counsel, Rebecca Siegel Singer, Quoted in Article for HR Managers
Becky Singer was recently quoted in the article, "Discipline: The Fine Art of Documentation" published by Society for Human Resource Management ("SHRM") available through SHRM's online journal. Based on her 20+ years of employment law experience, Ms. Singer offered her advice:
"In order to defend a termination decision, employers should live by three words, according to Rebecca Siegel Singer, senior counsel with the Dallas law firm Underwood Perkins, P.C.: 'Documentation, documentation, documentation.' But for some that's easier said than done.
"Singer said employees should be asked to sign documentation acknowledging that they have received a warning, that they understand company policy and that they know what is expected of them. If they refuse, however, she said, an employer can simply send a follow-up e-mail confirming that the conversation took place and the nature of what was discussed and noting that the employee refused to sign the documentation."
